“Culture in “alien” territories or Life on “trophy” lands”

On April 4, museum “Friedlander gate” opens photo exhibition – discussion “Culture in “alien” territories of Life on “trophy” lands”. In all times lands have gone “from hands to hands”. Sometimes it happened peacefully, sometimes through conflicts. It involved citizens and happened without them. In the last case, when former citizens left, the whole world disappeared. Local traditions died. Newcomers at some sense started on empty land. Life on “trophy” lands has nowadays its peculiarities conditional on historical circumstances, bordering position, and local economic situation … Alexander Sologoubov, author of the exhibition, candidate of philosophic science, has conducted research on this topic for many years. His collection is presented at the exhibition in a mosaic of photographs, books, paintings, copies of archive documents and newspaper articles, and comments.

Shipbuilding masterpieces

New exposition opened in museum of World ocean on March, 29. Exposition presents miniaturized copies of old ships forming the Russian fleet till the year 1917 and fragments of imperial yachts. Exposition will work till September, 15 2008 in the exhibition building “Packgauze”. By expert opinion, made for sailing for representatives of the imperial family and also for business trips of high position authorities of the state, yachts are masterpieces of Russian shipbuilding and art. Press service of the museum informs that in total Kaliningrad received 60 unique displays from funds of Central army-navy museum of Saint Petersburg.

Notes of Kennigsberger

On March, 27 in History and art museum Saulyus Kruopis presented to Kaliningraders a big model of Altstadt, result of his 9-years work. He explains himself his infatuation to old town as based on his previous incarnation of a Kennigsberger. Same amount of time was necessary both to draw one painting and to build one wall of Kings castle – the center of model’s composition. Visitors can also enjoy Lithuanian artists’ paintings that enable to dive into mysterious atmosphere of Kennigsberg. It is not by chance that exhibition of Saulyus Kruopis took place on same premises as the exhibition of Viktor Ryabinin. They are connected by genius loci /genius of locality/ which doesn’t leave them alone and reminds them all the time of Kennigsberg. In attempt to capture already non-existing town’ reality, which is not dependent on geography and history, images were born and personalized by those talented artists.

“Equinox”

Contest shows of the annual festival “Equinox” started on March 22. Organizers decided not to betray the tradition, and therefore festival is still open for student and youth theaters. This year among participants there are groups not only from Kaliningrad region, but also guests from Saint Petersburg and Cherepovets. Ceremony of official opening of the festival took place in the regional music theater on March, 22. Contest performances will start on March 23. Entrance to all performances is free of charge, by invitations.

“Professionals – 2008”

Exhibition “Professionals – 2008” was opened on March 22 in the Art gallery. Exposition introduces works of Kaliningrad artists and achievements of traditional school of drawing arts. About 80 paint and graphic works of such acknowledged masters as Mikhail Pyaskovsky, Nelli Smirniagina, Izrail Gershbourg, Nikolai Bocharov, Lyudmila Tambovtseva, and Tatyana Loshkareva are presented. All of them are participants of Russian and international exhibitions. Their works can be found in many museums of Europe and private collections.

“Patriotic school in 5 years”
12.03.2008. The name of the new 5-year target program of Kaliningrad region is “Patriotic education for population of Kaliningrad region”. Web-site www.culart.ru will support development of municipal programs on planning events devoted to 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. As the ministry of culture of the Kaliningrad region, a program developer, announced the main goal of the program is “to build in civil community a high level of patriotic awareness, sense of fidelity to homeland, readiness to fulfill civic duty and constitutional obligations of protecting interests of homeland”. Scientific and educational institutions, archives and museums, art groups and non-profit organizations, professional groups of the region will participate in program’s realization.

Who is guilty: television or parents?!

Specialists of regional ministry of culture answered culture and art related questions addressed to the President of RF Vladimir Putin by citizens of the region. Although a great variety of questions were asked there are some issues of utmost importance for many of our citizens. For example, concerns about dissemination on television channels of negative materials badly influencing moral development of Russians. President gave a detailed answer to that question and draw attention that there are now such channels as “Star”, “Sport”, “Kids”, “Home”, “Culture”, and others. They enable to contrast the cult of violence and cruetly with educational, highly moral, patriotic and cultural valuables of a human.

Eldar Ryazanov became an airplane

This happened in Kaliningrad airport “Khrabrovo”. On airport runway presentation of the 16th airplane Boeing 737-300 belonging to one of the Russian air companies (Kaliningrad company “KD Avia”) took place. Airplane was named in the honor of film director Eldar Ryazanov. He said that during the flight he already had a very specific feeling “This is a very special and nice feeling to fly in the airplane named in your honor”. “Eldar Ryazanov” is the fifth airplane named in the honor of Russian cultural activist. Other four have the names of Valery Gergiev, Sergey Prisekin, Yury Temirkanov, and Mikael Tariverdiev. Of ‘course this ceremony could not go without a baths besom (besom used in Russian baths to induce copious perspiration). This valuable memorizing the most popular movie “Irony of the fate” was given as a present to film director by one of its admirer – retired elderly man Gennadyi Gryaznov.
